Tequity’s Krzysztof Opałka on Why Simpler Technology Wins in iGaming | Exclusive Interview with iGaming News Today
Krzysztof Opałka was CTO, CPO and CIO at Yggdrasil before founding Tequity, the technology company that now runs a modular Remote Game Server, a bespoke game studio and a publishing arm.
In an exclusive interview with iGaming News Today, he set out the thinking behind that work, and a good part of it reads as a marketing argument rather than a technical one.
The best innovation is often subtraction, not addition
Opałka told iGaming News Today that innovation only counts when it improves the player experience, and that plenty of so-called innovations are ones “players simply do not welcome”.
His example is deliberately unglamorous. For him it can be “more innovative to reduce loading time by 25% than to introduce a new game mechanic that no one really cares about”.
That is a positioning instinct as much as a product one. The value you sell is the outcome the player feels, not the length of the feature list, and the temptation to keep adding is the thing that quietly buries it.
Complexity is the enemy, and it shows up in the messaging too
On scaling mistakes, Opałka named complexity first: it makes systems “harder to maintain, scale and extend”. He reaches for the old design line that perfection arrives “not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”.
The same discipline applies to how a company talks about itself. Cluttered products tend to come with cluttered messaging, and both lose the customer for the same reason.
Most companies fail at the story, not the tech
This is the part marketers will want to sit with. Asked where businesses go wrong, Opałka went straight past technology: companies “often fail in marketing and lack a clear, reliable brand narrative”.
His fix is plainly stated. “You need to tell a story, and that story needs to be interesting enough for people to want to follow it.” For a technology founder to put narrative on the same footing as the platform is the whole point of running this on a marketing title.
Quality over volume in an AI-flooded market
On AI, Opałka does not treat cheaper production as a growth strategy. AI makes content faster and cheaper to make, he said, but the market is already flooded, and the mistake is assuming “10 times more content will automatically drive sales”. The edge shifts to high-quality experiences over more mediocre ones, which is as much a brand and content problem as a development one.
